The most common misconception about the autumn exams is that you can retake any subject. This is incorrect.
The November series is highly restricted. You can only sit examinations for:
GCSE English Language
GCSE Mathematics
You cannot sit GCSE Science (Combined or Triple), History, Geography, or any modern foreign languages in November. If you wish to retake these subjects, or if you are looking to complete an A-Level Science Practical Endorsement, you must wait for the standard Summer series in May/June 2027.

When dealing with exam boards, deadlines are absolute. There is no flexibility for late submissions without incurring severe financial penalties.
Here is the timeline you must follow for the November 2026 series:
August 2026: Summer GCSE Results Day. This is when you will know if you need to resit. Do not delay; begin searching for an exam centre immediately.
Early September 2026: This is the ideal time to finalize your booking with the Private Exams Centre.
4 October 2026: The Final Official Entry Deadline. If you are not registered on the exam board system by this date, you will not be able to sit the exam.
2 November – 11 November 2026: The Examination Window. All English and Maths papers across all boards will take place within these ten days.
14 January 2027: November Results Day. You will receive your new grades in time to update any university applications or college progression requirements.
If you are resitting GCSE Mathematics, you must make a critical decision when booking your exam: Foundation or Higher tier?
Foundation Tier: The maximum grade you can achieve is a Grade 5. The questions are generally more accessible and focus on core mathematical principles.
Higher Tier: The grades available range from Grade 4 to Grade 9. However, if you fail to achieve the minimum marks for a Grade 4, you will receive a U (Unclassified). There is no "safety net" Grade 3.
Our Advice: If your sole objective is to pass (achieve a Grade 4) to get into college or university, the Foundation Tier is statistically the safer option. You should only attempt the Higher Tier in November if you are highly confident in your mathematical ability or if a specific university course (like Medicine or Engineering) explicitly demands a Grade 6 or above.
The process of booking an exam as an independent learner is different from attending a mainstream school. You cannot simply log onto the AQA or Edexcel website and pay a fee.
The exam boards require you to be affiliated with an Approved Exam Centre.
